Chocolate Chip Scones
Warm, golden, and just sweet enough — the kind of scone that makes any morning feel special.
Yields 6
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
¼ cup granulated sugar
1¼ teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon fine kosher salt
½ cup cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces
¾ cup semi-sweet, bittersweet, or milk chocolate chips
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
⅔–¾ cup cold buttermilk
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add the cold butter and, using your fingertips or a pastry cutter, work it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Stir in the chocolate chips.
In a small bowl, whisk together the vanilla and buttermilk. Add to the flour mixture, stirring gently just until the dough begins to come together — it should be slightly shaggy and not overmixed.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and pat into a 1-inch-thick round. Use a 2½-inch biscuit cutter to cut out circles, gathering scraps and reshaping as needed.
Arrange scones on the prepared baking sheet about 1 inch apart. Brush the tops lightly with buttermilk and, if desired, sprinkle with a little sugar for extra crunch.
Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the tops are lightly golden and the bottoms are set. Let cool slightly before serving.
